Merchant Accounts For Web Design & Development
An Overview
Web Design & Development Credit Card Processing
Why We Proudly Accept Web Designers And Developers As Merchants (Even When Many Processors Don’t)
Many credit card processors do not accept web design and development businesses, primarily for two reasons:
- The first is historically, some less-than-reputable design agencies have had a high proportion of their credit card charges disputed. That is, the web design client initiated a chargeback on the amount charged by the web design company. Because of a relatively small number of these “bad apples,” many credit processing companies simply will not work with web designers or web design firms. Nor will they accept coders, programmers, or web development firms, who have been historically lumped into the same category.
- The second reason many merchant account companies will not accept web designers or developers as merchants, is that the nature of the product/service is “big ticket,” that is, high dollar charges. High ticket charges, especially if they occur infrequently or on a non-recurring basis, are often considered “high risk” by service providers who mainly serve the physical retail market.
Soar Payments, by contrast, has been proud to serve web designers and developers since our company’s inception. Our extensive relationships with credit card processors and sponsor banks who specialize in underwriting businesses with increased chargeback exposure, enables us to confidently support these businesses (including solo designers and programmers). Moreover, our fully integrated chargeback and fraud prevention solutions, uniquely position Soar Payments to help protect our merchants from some of the inevitable risks endemic to this industry.

Types Of Web Design & Development Merchant Accounts
Soar Payments offer a full-spectrum of merchant services to boutique web design agencies, solo coders / programmers, and other businesses in the web development industry. These include:
Retail Payments
A retail merchant account for web design and development enables businesses to accept face-to-face debit and credit card payments via a traditional credit card machine or point of sale system.
Ideally suited to a storefront or retail setting with reliable internet access, retail web design credit card processing accounts typically have the lowest chargeback and fraud risk and as a result are afforded the lowest credit card processing pricing.
Mobile Payments
A mobile merchant account for web design and development enables your business to accept face-to-face credit and debit card payments via a swiper (included with each account) that plugs into your mobile phone or iPad.
Appropriate for businesses that frequently conduct face-to-face sales outside of a storefront, such as at trade shows or networking events, mobile accounts are priced similarly to retail, due to their lower chargeback risk.
Virtual Terminal Payments
Also called a payment gateway merchant account, a virtual terminal enables businesses to accept payments over the phone, via mail, or typed into a computer (without needing outside equipment).
A web design payment gateway account is ideal for businesses that accept payments over the phone, or via mail order. Virtual terminal payments are particularly vulnerable to fraud, therefore Soar Payments offers integrated chargeback protection.
eCommerce Payments
An eCommerce web design merchant account allows you to accept credit card payments via your website’s online shopping cart.
Our eCommerce credit card processing accounts integrate seamlessly with most major payment gateways and shopping cart software, making setup simple. Web design and development service payments are vulnerable to fraud and chargebacks, consequently, we offers pre-integrated fraud protection technology.
